Bali, Nov 26 : , Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sinhu and the men’s doubles team of Chirag Shetty Rankireddy, both of whom won their matches here on Friday, reached the semi-finals at the 2021 Indonesia Open. Sindhu beat Sim Yujin, a South Korean shuttler, and had to work hard to win her 14-21, 21-19 and 21-14 victories in the quarter-finals.
She will now be entering the women’s singles semifinals.
The South Korean’s inventive strokes caught Sindhu off guard and she took a 21-14 lead.
In the second game, Sindhu recovered and took a 14-7 lead.However, Yujin fought back and secured a close finish.
To level the score, the reigning World Champion took it 21-19.
The decider saw the shuttlers go toe to foot in the opening exchanges.
Just after the midway break, the score was tied at 11.Sindhu, however, was at her best and won the match in 66 minutes.
In the Super 1000 semi-finals, Sindhu will face Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, the world’s No 8.Intanon defeated Japan’s Asuka Tahashi 21-17, 21-12 during her quarter-final match.
This will be Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist,’s third consecutive semi-final appearance following the French Open and Indonesia Masters.
Later, the men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty defeated Malaysia’s Goh Se Fei and Nur Azzuddin 21-19 21-19 to reach the quarterfinals.
B Sai Praneeth, however, lost 12-21, 8-21 and 21 in straight games to Viktor Axelsen, the Tokyo Olympic champion and second seed from Denmark, in the men’s singles quarterfinals.
Praneeth’s compatriot Kidambi Srikanth was defeated by the Dane in round 16.
