Italy’s competition watchdog punishes Apple and Google for each of their violations of Italian law.

London, November 26 : , The Italian Competition Authority (AGCM), has fined tech giants Apple & Google $11.3 million each for violating the Consumer Code.One for lack of information, the other for aggressive practices regarding the acquisition of consumer data for commercial purposes.
AGCM stated that Google’s economic activity is based on the sale of a wide variety of products and services that are connected to the Internet.

These include search tools, online advertising, cloud computing, software and hardware.

Apple collects, profiles, and uses user data to market its products and services.

According to the AGCM statement, Apple direct exploits the economic value of its products and/or those of third parties by using promotional activities to increase sales through its commercial platforms App Store iTunes Store and Apple Books.

Google stated that it disagrees with the ruling in a statement to The Verge and plans to appeal.

A spokesperson said that “We give people simple controls over their information and limit its use, and we work hard for compliance with the consumer protection regulations.”

This is Apple’s second fine by the Italian regulator this Week.Amazon and Apple were both hit with fines in excess of $225 million Tuesday for restricting the sale of Beats and Apple products at Amazon’s Italian store.

The 2018 agreement between the companies meant that only certain resellers were allowed to sell the products on Amazon.

This was in violation of EU competition rules.Both companies were also fined and told to lift the restrictions.
