14 Oppn parties will boycott the Constitution Day function at Parliament

New Delhi, Nov 26 : , 14 opposition parties decided to boycott the Constitution Day function.This was after Congress reached out to similar-minded parties, alleging that the government is not following the Constitution.Friday’s function will see the Prime Minister and President address the gathering in the central hall.
Jaiveer Shergill, Congress spokesperson, stated, “Post Independence, many around the world predicted that Indian democracy would not survive.Yet, here we are because the Constitution which binds “we the people”; no one should ever be permitted to weaken, dilute or fail our Constitution.”

The Congress and the NCP also decided to boycott the event.Majeed Memon of NCP stated that the BJP leaders wanted to celebrate Constitution Day at Central Hall with all the solemnity and respect for the Constitution of India.It is a mockery for them to do so if they don’t follow the Constitution on the ground.”

On this issue, Congress reached out to opposition parties.Parties like the Left, Trinamool, Samajwadi party and RJD, Shiv Sena as well as IUML, DMK and other NCP parties followed suit.

Opposition claimed that the Centre was not adhering with the Constitution but making a mockery of Parliament by not reaching consensus on issues and bypassing Parliament.

On Friday, President Ram Nath Kovind is the Chief Guest at the Constitution Day celebrations in the Central Hall of Parliament House.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu, and Lok Sabha Speaker Ombirla will address the crowd.
