The vote was held in a parliamentary no confidence vote on October 5.

After the swearing-in ceremony at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, President Klaus Iohannis stated that “the political crisis is over, but other crises aren’t, nor has the problem disappeared.”

“The energy crisis is not over, and the pandemic isn’t over.” The President stated that the budget for this year will need to be amended. The budget for next year will also have to be prepared.People are still waiting for their salaries and pensions to be paid on time. Many other issues must be resolved urgently.”

The coalition cabinet was approved with 318 votes in favor and 126 against earlier in day in a joint plenary session at the 465-seat bicameral legislature. This is more than the required half of the total MPs.

It was not surprising that the coalition, which includes the National Liberal Party (PNL), Social Democratic Party (PSD), and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romanian (UDMR), holds 65 percent of seats in Parliament.18 MPs from the country’s minority communities also support the coalition.

After the investiture of his cabinet, the new Prime Minister stated that he had pledged to do all he could to overcome all the problems caused by the Covid crisis and to determine the lines for effort necessary to support Romania’s development.

“We are Romania’s government as we promised to keep the Romanian citizen in the centre of our attention,” Ciuca, a retired general and former Defence minister, said.

Ciuca will head a new cabinet that includes two Deputy Prime Ministers as well as 20 Ministers.
