Brazzaville, Nov 26th : Only 27% of African health workers have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.This leaves the vast majority of those working in the frontlines of the pandemic, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). “The majority African health workers are still missing vaccines and remain dangerously exposed for severe Covid-19 infection,” Matshidiso Moeti (WHO Regional Director for Africa) said on Thursday.
According to the WHO Regional office in Africa, Africa’s shortage of health workers has reached an acute and grave stage.16 countries have less than one health worker for every 1,000 people.
Africa has administered more than 227 million doses of vaccines.Health workers in 39 countries have received approximately 3.9 million doses.
Moeti stated that there is a new surge of cases in Africa after the end-of the year festive season.Countries must accelerate the rollout vaccines to health care workers.
According to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were 8,614,525 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Africa as of Thursday afternoon.There had been 222,254 deaths and 8,060 4,459 recoveries.
