Bengaluru, Nov 24, : .Srijith R and Shelton Paul, both FC Bengaluru United youths, have been selected to represent Karnataka at the 75th Santosh Trophy.

They are hoping to do well and make a mark in the ongoing tournament.
The Bengaluru-based club is known for signing talent who are long-term prospects for the state.

Srijith, a goalkeeper and Shelton, a winger, spoke about how their time at FC Bengaluru United helped them to grow as players.They also talked about how they look forward to bringing their knowledge into the historic tournament, which dates back to pre-Independence India.

Shelton stated, “I would like FC Bengaluru United to believe and show faith in me and signing my up,”

“It has been a great experience working with Richard Hood sir (Head coach) He has been a great coach and has always pushed me to my limits on and off the pitch.He said that this has helped me as a player, and he is looking forward to representing his state.

FC Bengaluru United, defending champions of the BDFA Super division League, recently participated in the I-League qualifiers and were invited to the legendary Durand Cup.Shelton, 22, has gained valuable experience by competing in these tournaments.

“During those tournaments I learned many things by the more senior and more experienced players.They had a very positive effect on me and helped to grow as a player,” the winger stated.

Srijith found the tournaments a valuable learning experience.

Kunzang Bhutia was a great player and I took away many strategies and game-ways.

He was an expert in pressure management and a rock for the team until the semis.This helped me to develop my skills.

“When you are part of a team that includes many experienced players who have also played at international levels, you pick on their mindset and ability to read every opponent which is a big requirement for a goalkeeper.”

Karnataka has been to the semi-finals twice of the Santosh Trophy, but has never made it beyond this stage.Srijith and Shelton believe it is time to go all the way.

Shelton stated, “We have reached the semifinals twice so we are confident we can achieve gold.”

Karnataka won a stunning 4-0 victory over Tamil Nadu to open their Santosh Trophy campaign.

Srijith said, “We take one at a time and hope for the best results.”
