Punjab Police foil possible terrorist attack, one held

Chandigarh : , Nov 24, 2012 – Punjab Police claimed Wednesday that it had stopped another terrorist attack by arresting Ranjit Singh of Tarn Taran.He was a highly-radicalized operative.
According to Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, Director General of Police, two P-86 handgrenades made in China and two pistols with cartridges were recovered by the police.He also had a black Royal Enfield motorcycle.

He stated that special teams were sent to the area to find Ranjit Singh after receiving intelligence about his presence in Amritsar.Ranjit Singh was then captured.

This development comes at an era when Punjab is experiencing a huge inflow of handgrenades, tiffin bombs, and other weapons.

Recent events have seen a few grenade explosions in the state, including the area of Pathankot that was used as a cantonment, and the recovery of an unexploded handgrenade from Zira.

The DGP stated that Ranjit Singh had created a group called “Kaum De Rakhe” in order to collect funds under the pretext of social service.Through this group, he was able to get in touch with various terrorist and radical elements based in the UK, and other countries, through social media.

He claimed that Ranjit Singh had recently received an armoured shipment of explosives and arms, and was planning on a terror strike to create fear and lawlessness at the border.

Ranjit Singh was alleged to have been part of a group that vandalized statues of folk dancers at the heritage street leading up to Amritsar’s Golden Temple on January 15, 2020.

He was arrested in the statue vandalism case and was currently on bail, he said.
