Bhubaneswar : , Nov 24, 2009 – The Shilanyas, or the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the ambitious Srimandir Parikrama Prakalp, was performed in Odisha’s Puri in the company of Chief Minister Naveen Paknaik on Wednesday.
Puri Gajapati Shri Dibyasingh Deb is the first servant of Lord Jagannath and performed ‘Purna Ahu’ before laying the foundation stone for this project.

Gajapati Maharaj also performed Surya Puja, and other rituals that go with Shilanyas or Bhumi Puja as per Vedic rituals.

After a tour of the temple, Patnaik stated that today was a historic day in the lives of all Jagannath devotees around the world and a sacred day to the people of Odisha.

He felicitated 10 people who donated land to the heritage corridor project.

“We aim to complete the project in 18 months, as per our plan.

Background work, including art and culture work as well as stone carving work, has already begun.Krishan Kumar, chief administrator of the temple, said that he is certain that the work will be completed on time with the support of Puri’s citizens and Sevayats.

In December 2019, the state government unveiled the Puri heritage corridor plan.The Puri heritage corridor project will allow devotees to perform ‘Parikrama’, a ritual of going around an object of devotion.

It is located around the Meghanada Pacheri, which surrounds the 12th century temple.The project will be implemented within a radius of 75 metres of the shrine, at an estimated cost Rs 800 crore.

This project will create a 7-lane wide path for devotees and a separate route for the deities surrounding the Meghanada Pacheri temple.Other components of this project include the redevelopment and expansion of the temple administration building, a Jagannath cultural centre with Raghunandan library, and an integrated command-and-control centre.

Sources said that besides a cloakroom, separate toilet complexes and ATMs, first aid centres, police posts, pilgrim information centres, police posts, and ATMs will be set up, as well as a cloakroom.
