Ex-BNP lawmaker sentenced for death

By Sumi Khan Dhaka, Nov 24, : Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka, a former lawmaker from Bangladesh Nationalist Party was sentenced Wednesday by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1)-1 to death for his crimes against humanity during 1971 Liberation War.

The order was announced by a three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam, ICT-1 Chairman.

Justice Abu Ahmed Jamadar, and Justice K.M.are the other members.Hafijul Alam.

Talukder, an oxiliary force from the Pakistani occupation army personnel, and other collaborators launched an attack on freedom fighters and the Hindu community in the villages Kalsha Bazar and Rathabari in Bogura’s Adamdighi on April 22, 1971.

He is accused of murdering at least 10 people, including one freedom fighter.

Between October 24-27 1971, Talukder and Pakistani occupation army personnel and their collaborators conducted raids at Kashimala Village, looting 16-17 homes, and killing five people.

On October 25, 1971, Talukder murdered four people from Adamdighi’s Talshan village.

Subid Ali, a Kayetpara village freedom fighter, filed the war crimes case against him in March 2011.

Later, the case was forwarded to ICT.

Momin was elected a lawmaker in Bogra’s Adamdighi region in 2001.He also contests the 2008 elections from the BNP.
