K’taka on high alert for Norovirus outbreak in Kerala

Bengaluru, Nov 24, : Following the discovery of 13 norovirus cases, Karnataka has issued an alert in the bordering districts Kodagu Kannada and Dakshina Kannada.
The Karnataka Health Department issued guidelines on Tuesday in a circular.

To manage the situation, it directed the appointment of a doctor as a nodal official for each district.Officers from the Family Welfare and District Health departments were also asked to help.

The infection can be spread by contaminated food or water.It said that symptoms of the virus include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, stomach ache and headaches.

The patients will need to be admitted to the hospital.It said that if the patients are not taken care of, it could prove fatal.

Officials from the health department were asked to collect information about sources of drinking water and test them.

The treatment of the infection is not specific and the patient must be treated for symptoms.

13 students from Pookode, Wayanad district in Kerala were infected by the rare norovirus in October.The Kerala government has urged the people to be on high alert.

Norovirus, also known as the “winter vomiting bug”, is highly infectious and spreads easily between people.Doctors believe that the disease can be transmitted through direct contact with infected people, eating contaminated food, touching contaminated surfaces, and unwashed hands.
