Sydney, Nov 24, : Australian Test opener Marcus Harris has supported Tim Paine.He said he is still the “best golfer” in Australia, and that he has the support from the entire team. After it became known that there was an off-field scandal, Paine voluntarily resigned as Test skipper before the Ashes.
Harris said that Harris has done a great job in the past few years despite being under difficult circumstances.
“You could argue that he’s still one of the best glovemen in the country.He played some important innings last year.
Harris said that he knows he has the support and the rest is up to those above him.The Ashes will begin in Brisbane on December 8.
Harris, who is currently quarantined in Queensland in preparation for the Ashes Test, stated that every member of the team had reached out to Paine and that everyone was eager to see him join the squad.
Paine has resigned his captaincy but he is available to select Ashes players and is currently playing in a Second XI match for Tasmania in Hobart.
“Cricket Australia has announced the squad for the first two tests and he (Paine), will be here in about a week.We look forward to him getting up and playing cricket.
Sometimes, it is best to be outside playing cricket and forget about all the problems.
“I think knowing Paine and his character, I think he’s a strong and resilient guy.Harris added that Paine is the only one who can get through it.
“Tim has been a great leader in the group.He’s been a great leader to me and my family.Our hearts were with Bonnie (Paine’s) wife and his children and his family.
Then, of course, CA will have to decide who is going to lead now.
