Seoul, Nov 24, : , South Korean Prime Minister Kim Boo Kyum said Wednesday that the Covid-19 situation in South Korea is worse than expected, particularly in the capital.He urged health authorities to intensify containment measures.
Kim made the warning at a time when the country’s daily Covid-19 case numbers reached an all-time high 4,117.Yonhap News Agency reports that the number of critically ill patients also reached a new record 586.

Nearly 80 percent of daily country virus cases were confirmed in the capital region, which includes the Gyeonggi Province and Incheon.Seoul alone reported 1,735 cases.

Kim stated that the Seoul metropolitan area, which is home to half the country’s population and is in urgent need of assistance, should be considered.

The government initiated the first phase of “living with Covid-19”, which is a scheme that allows people to gradually return to their normal lives.

This led to an increase in daily cases.

Kim stated that “our gradual return to normal living has met its first hurdle” during a Covid response meeting held in Sejong.

“We are at a crossroads and need to evaluate whether we should continue to the next phase.However, the situation is worse than we anticipated.

He stated, “We need to increase support measures so that patients with mild symptoms and those who are asymptomatic can receive treatment at home safely.”

Kim also advised people, especially senior citizens, to get booster Covid-19 shots as the number of breakthrough cases are also increasing.
