Lucknow, Nov 24, : Despite the ongoing demand for a second Allahabad High Court bench in western Uttar Pradesh, the Avadh Bar Association of Lucknow (ABA) has passed a resolution requesting expansion of territorial jurisdiction in light of Jaswant Sing’s Commission report. The report recommends linking the Bareilly and Moradabad sections with the Lucknow seat.
Aufgrund of their proximity to the state capital, the ABA also demanded that Kanpur and Basti, Azamgarh, Kanpur and Kanpur divisions be merged with the Lucknow bench.
After media reports that Union Law Minister Kiran Rijiju had suggested that the Central government was looking at establishing a Allahabad High Court in Agra, the ABA resolution was adopted.
Rakesh Chaudhary, president of ABA, stated that a delegation will meet Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister and Kiran Rijiju, local MPs, to press their claim for the expansion of the Lucknow bench’s jurisdiction.
