New Delhi, Nov 23, : , The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Dr.Balram Bhargav said Tuesday that the development of India’s native vaccine, Covaxin was a great example of public-private partnerships marked with trust, transparency, and accountability.
“The collaboration between ICMR, Bharat Biotech made it possible to develop Covaxin.This is a great example of public-private partnership that is marked by trust, transparency, and mutual respect,” Dr.Bhargav stated.

He spoke at the launch of his book, “Going Viral”.

This book is meant to guide readers through the process of developing India’s first Covid-19 vaccine.

“Going Viral” captures the first-hand experiences and research of scientists who worked tirelessly to create India’s first Covid-19 vaccine in record time, less than eight months.

The book sheds light upon the resilience and courage shown.

Bhargav said that protecting the environment is key to preventing a similar pandemic in future.

Dr Bhargav, Chief of ICMR, discusses the development of India’s Covid-19 vaccine and the challenges faced by Indian scientists as they developed, treated, and serosurveyed new technologies and vaccines.

“When H1N1 hit India, vaccines had to be imported from other countries.

We have made great strides from importing vaccines to making our own vaccine.Today, our Covid vaccines can be exported to other countries,” Dr.Randeep Guleria, Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, said during a panel discussion about the book.

Rajesh Bhushan, Health Secretary, was also present at the book launch.

He stated that India has made great strides in fighting Covid-19.

We have been involved in the development of vaccines, Covid-19 RNA extraction and testing kits development since the outbreak of the pandemic.

This was possible thanks to effective collaboration, strong leadership, and efficient teamwork.

Vijay Raghavan congratulated ICMR on their partnership with Bharat Biotech.

“It was efficient and timely.

He stated that we now need to ensure everyone is vaccinated, and practice safety measures like wearing a mask, and following social distancing.

Krishna Ella, Chairman & Managing Director of Bharat Biotech, highlighted the importance public-private partnerships for making Covaxin a reality.

He said that Covaxin’s development was a success story for India’s public-private partnerships.

It is based on mutual respect and trust, transparency, and transparency.
