Galle, Nov 23, : The West Indies were at 224/9 and trailed Sri Lanka by 162 runs.However, persistent rain forced an early stump on Day 3 at Galle International Stadium here on Tuesday.
Shannon Gabriel and Joshua Da Silva, Windies batters, will resume Day 4 with the hope of adding more vital runs.Lanka, who scored 386 runs in their first innings, will try to close things as soon as possible.

West Indies began the day at 113/6.To avoid the follow-on, West Indies needed a team effort from lower-order batters.

Jason Holder, Rahkeem Corn, Joshua da Silva and Kyle Mayers all contributed significantly to the bat.

Mayers and Holder established a 63-run stand at an acceptable pace to counter-attack the Sri Lankan spinners.Mayers was the first to leave on 45, Karunaratne taking a great catch at short cover, with Dhananjaya De Silva celebrating the win.

Holder left soon after, with another brilliant effort on the field, this one from Chameera.Jayawickrama scoring his third goal to end the former captain’s 36-run run.

The aggressive route was taken by Cornwall, who took some great shots and West Indies headed for lunch at 215/8.This added 102 runs to the session.Although he was able to get out of the building quickly after lunch, his 39-run knock helped West Indies save the following.

The rain stopped play for a brief time, and the covers were put on the field.Despite the sun shining at one point, rain continued to play hide and seek throughout the day.The umpires finally called off play.
