This was Seoul’s first advisory on ultrafine dust since May 7.

An advisory will be issued if the hourly mean concentration of PM2.5 — particles less than 2.5 micrometers in size — remains above 75 micrograms/cubic meter for more than two hours.

At 9 PM (S.Korea Time), another advisory was issued by the authority. The city’s PM 10, which are particles less than 10 micrometers, had remained above 150 micrograms per square meter for more than two hours.

According to the institute, the increase in PM2.5 and PM10 has been attributed to stagnant airflow and high pressure around the Korean Peninsula.

The advisory advised people with cardiovascular or respiratory diseases to remain indoors as much as possible, and to wear dust masks when outside.
