AP HC issues notice to CS, DGP and APPSC Chairman on appointment of Women Secretaries as Women police

The petition filed against the appointment of secretaries in village and ward secretariats as women police was heard in the Andhra Pradesh high court on Tuesday.

On this occasion, the high court issued notices to the Chief Secretary, DGP Gautam Sawang, Police Recruitment Board and APPSC chairman.

The petitioner objected to the appointment of 15,000 women secretaries and the handing over of police duties to them.

The petitioner brought to the notice of the high court that the decision taken by the government was contrary to the AP District Police Act.The High Court directed the defendants to file counterclaims immediately.

The Andhra Pradesh state government has recently issued orders appointing the women secretaries of village and ward secretariats in AP as police under the purview of the Home Ministry.

The petitioner described in the petition that the powers and responsibilities of a constable were vested within a woman police officer in village and ward secretariats.In addition to the training required for women police, they were also given the uniforms, which the women constables use.

The petitioner said that Additional Head Constable posts will be created for their promotion.Hence, the petitioner asked the high court to make appropriate changes in the law.
