The paddy procurement process for this monsoon season starts today in Telangana.The Telangana state government will first procure grain from the districts where the harvest has already started.
It aims to procure a total of 90 lakh metric tonnes of grain this season.
In this context, the state government has directed the district collectors and civil supplies department officials to immediately start the necessary steps for the paddy procurement process.
The state government has appointed a six-member committee comprising the Commissioner of Civil Supplies and the officers of the Police Department to look after the paddy procurement process.This committee regularly reviews the grain procurement process and takes control measures to prevent any irregularities.
The government estimates that a total of 1.35 crore metric tonnes of grain will be produced this season.Of this, currently, the state govt decided to procure at least 90 lakh metric tonnes of grain.For this, more than 6,500 purchasing centres will be set up.
According to civil supplies sources, there is a possibility of procuring paddy first from Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Medak and Nalgonda districts where harvesting has already started.The Civil Supplies Department has announced payment of Rs 1,960 per quintal for rice A-grade and Rs 1,940 per quintal for common variety.
