Karnataka to hold talks with Andhra, Telangana on building dam over Tungabhadra

Karnataka plans to hold talks with the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments over the construction of a dam on the Tungabhadra river.Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraju Bommai recently said that Karnataka feels that a balancing reservoir is needed for the removal of sand-dunes in the river.

The Chief Minister said that a comprehensive project report on this would be available soon.However, Basavaraju explained that he had to talk to Telangana and AP governments about the construction of the dam and would go for talks to resolve the issue properly.

He said a survey was already underway on the construction, and he had learned that former CM BS Yeddyurappa had released Rs 23 crore for the construction of the project.

Also, the Chief Minister of Karnataka said the problem of sand-dunes in Tungabhadra was getting complicated and needed to be solved as soon as possible.He said tenders have already been invited.

Basavaraj Bommai said that the construction of a balancing reservoir was necessary to solve the sand-dune problem, and the decision was taken during the BJP government.

The Chief Minister said the issue would have to be discussed with the neighbouring states immediately after a full report is out.
