Ganesh idols immersion: TS govt likely to approach Supreme court over HC’s ruling

On the occasion of Vinayaka Chaturthi, the immersion of Ganesh idols has become a million-dollar question for people in Hyderabad.The Telangana High Court recently clarified that only clay idols should be immersed in the Hussain Sagar, and it said no to the immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris.

However, the dissatisfied Telangana state government is planning to approach the Supreme Court on the High court’s ruling.The petition is likely to be filed today.

The tribunal, which held an urgent hearing on the review petition filed by GHMC seeking reconsideration of the verdict on immersion of Ganesh idols, clarified that the verdict on immersion could not be amended.

Hyderabad is well-known for its Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebration.

Now, due to the recent ruling of the Telangana High court, the immersion of Ganesh idols has become a major question for the people of Hyderabad.This year, thousands of Ganesh idols were erected in GHMC purview.

With this, the GHMC brought to the High court’s notice that the Hyderabad Ganesh Utsava Samiti had called for protests if the immersion of idols was halted at Hussain Sagar.The public prosecutor asked the High Court to understand the circumstances and amend the judgment.

But, the High Court refused to do so.
