YCP govt amends AP Subordinate service rules 1996 to implement EWS reservation

The Andhra Pradesh state government recently issued a gazette notification amending the Andhra Pradesh State Subordinate Service Rules, 1996.The state government has amended the rule to enable 10 per cent reservation in state government jobs for the economically backward sections of the upper castes.

After Rule-2 (31) and 32 of the Terms of Service, those who do not fall under the category of reservations given to SC, ST and BC categories, and those families whose annual income is below Rs 8 lakh should be identified as economically backward sections of the society.Currently, the YCP govt is implementing a 10 per cent reservation for this section of people.

The sub-rule (1) of Rule 22 includes the options like “ex-servicemen” followed by “economically backward classes”.In Sub-Rule-2, 15 per cent reservation reserved for SCs, 6 per cent reserved for STs, 29 per cent reserved for BCs and 10 per cent reserved for EWS categories in the direct government appointments in the open competitions.

For a family, if the total annual income from wages, agriculture, business and other occupations is less than Rs 8 lakh, they are eligible for EWS reservations.The state government opines that many families would get benefited from this.
