Huge inflow of floodwater from the Jurala project to the Srisailam reservoir

The state of Telangana is witnessing heavy rains as the onset of the southeast monsoon coupled with the low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal.As a result, a large amount of floodwater has started flowing in the rivers.

The floodwater started flowing into the Srisailam reservoir.A total of 13,314 cusecs water entered the Srisailam reservoir since 6 pm on Friday.

The reservoir currently holds 34.27 TMC of water.It requires another 181 TMCs of water to fill the reservoir.The flood flow into the Jurala project continues to be flowing steadily due to the heavy rains in the state.The water level reached 9.42 TMC on Friday with 16,581 cusecs flowing into the Jurala project.The total water storage capacity of the project is 9.657 TMCs.

With the filling of the Jurala project, Telangana Genco officials started generating electricity.17,056 cusecs are being discharged downstream while generating electricity.Authorities said that this is the first time that floodwater reached Srisailam in the second week of June from the Jurala project.The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in the Krishna Basin, especially in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra for the next one week.
