Retired IAS Anup Chandra Pandey appointed as Election Commissioner

Retired IAS officer Anup Chandra Pandey has been appointed as the new Central Election Commissioner by President of India Ramnath Kovind.Sushil Chandra is currently the Chief Election Commissioner of India, while Rajiv Kumar and Anup Chandra Pandey are members of the commission.

Anoop Chandra Pandey is an officer of the 1984 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre.He has previously served as the Chief Secretary to the Government of UP and has also served in various positions in the Central Services.

Anup Chandra Pandey will continue in the post for three years.His term ends in February 2024.

Sunil Arora, a former Central Election Commission general secretary, retired on April 12.This resulted in one vacancy position in the three-member Election commission.With this, President Ram Nath Kovind recently appointed Anup Chandra Pandey as the Central Election Commissioner under Article 324 (2) of the Constitution.He took the office of oath on Wednesday.

This restores the three-member commission to its full strength.

Anup Chandra Pandey retired from the civil services in August 2019.

He served as Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh under the reign of CM Yogi Adityanath before he retired from civil services.
