President of India Ram Nath Kovind has decided to appoint Justice NV Ramana as the Chief Justice of India (CJI) on April 24.Presidential orders approving his appointment were issued on Tuesday.

The current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice SA Bobde, retires on April 23.In this context, Justice Bobde recommended Justice NV Ramana as the next CJI to the President.

The recommendations were approved by the President on Tuesday.With this, Justice NV Ramana will be sworn in as CJI on April 24.He will continue as a CJI of the Supreme Court till August 26, 2022.

Justice NV Ramana was born on August 27, 1957, in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

He is the second person from AP to take charge as CJI.Before Justice Ramana, Justice Subba Rao served as CJI.Initially, Justice Ramana served as an advocate and later he became a Judge in the Supreme court.During his tenure, he has heard several important cases in the Supreme Court, and in Andhra Pradesh High Court regarding the Central and State Administrative Tribunals.

He is said to be a virtuoso in cases involving constitutional, criminal, services, and interstate river water disputes.
