In the study from Ookla, a network intelligence and connectivity insight provider Ookla 20 percent of respondents in Indian respondents would be waiting for their service providers to upgrade their services to 5G.

While 14 percent of respondents plan to use the services following the upgrade to a 5G-enabled phone 7 per cent of respondents would be waiting for their current contract to come to an end.

If you’re not sure about this new technology are likely to be waiting to see how appealing it is when other people begin using it.

Only 2 percent of respondents said that they didn’t plan to upgrade to 5G.

“While mobile internet users in India are one of the most data-intensive users in the world India’s 4G/LTE networks have been a bottleneck in the demand for data,” said Sylwia Kechiche principal analyst enterprise , Ookla.

“Now that operators have acquired 5G spectrum they are racing to be the first operators to launch with 5G with certain operators already indicating that deployment of 5G are expected to commence in the coming months.” Kechiche added.

The research revealed that the study found that if mobile Internet connectivity was improved 70 percent of participants would be more likely to make use of streaming videos, and the majority of respondents said they would increase their gaming on their mobiles.

Operators have acquired the total of 44,960 MHz of spectrum in the 26 GHz spectrum band (mmWave) that, because of its speedy throughput is especially beneficial for gaming and streaming.

Nearly 42 percent of people surveyed believe faster speeds will most likely improve the quality of service currently offered to them.

The good news is that spectrum assets in the C-band can help in this direction as stated in the report.

Both Airtel and Jio both bought C-band spectrum at auction, buying spectrum in all of the 22 telecom circles, whereas Vodafone has only acquired spectrum in its preferred circles.

In addition to faster speeds 24 percent of respondents want an easier connection, and 21 per cent are looking for better coverage for indoor areas.

In the wake of the auction for spectrum, Bharti Airtel has already signed agreements with Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung to roll out 5G services in August.

“Indian operators’ decision to adopt Open RAN will drive network costs to be even lower.Another important factor is the ecosystem for 5G devices with 5G smartphone prices dropping since the technology was introduced,” the report mentioned.

Indian operators have already begun to announce their ideas regarding rollout of their networks, with Reliance Jio targeting an all-India rollout that coincides with the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” during Independence Day, while Airtel plans to launch 5G services in important cities throughout the country.

It also showed that the main reason why 5G has not been upgraded is due to the perception of expense of the 5G cost.

A quarter of those who do not intend to upgrade believe that the 5G price is too high as well as 24 percent citing the lack of 5G-related knowledge as a problem and 23 percent not owning a 5G-capable phone, according to the Ookla report.
