Aizawl : , Friday, November 26th, 2006: A powerful earthquake measuring 6.1 on Richter scale struck along the Mizoram–Myanmar border.It shook parts Of Assam, Manipur and Tripura, according to authorities.There were no deaths or damages.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremors could also be felt in Bangladesh bordering Bangladesh.

The earthquake occurred at 5.15 a.m.Friday morning at a depth 35 km below the surface.

After the main temblor there were two after-shocks at 5.53 a.m.and 8.01 a.m.

A disaster management official in Aizawl stated that the epicenter of the earthquake was 73km southeast of Thenzawl, in Mizoram’s Serchhip district along Myanmar.

The official said that although there was no damage yet, the earthquake triggered strong shaking throughout Mizoram.

Different northeastern states have disaster management officials who said there have not been any reports of property damage or injury.

Authorities are concerned by the recurrent earthquakes in the northeastern countries, particularly Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur.

According to Seismologists, the northeastern region is the sixth most earthquake-prone area in the world.
