Brasilia, Nov 24, : , At least 58 Brazilian cities have cancelled Carnival 2022 celebrations due to fears of Covid-19 outbreaks.The famous Brazilian festival was also cancelled during the second wave of Covid pandemics in South America.
This country currently has the third highest death toll and largest caseload in the world, according to Xinhua news agency.
According to media reports, Tuesday’s celebrations will be cancelled by four cities in Minas Gerais, and 54 in Sao Paulo.
These include Franca, Sorocaba and Suzano as well as Botucatu and Poa.
“During Carnival, people will be coming from all over the country.After everything we have experienced due to the pandemic, we cannot take more risks,” Mayor of Franca Alexandre Ferreira said to reporters.
Poa and Sorocaba are also in financial trouble, having lost their Carnival 2022 subsidies.
The official parade at Sao Paulo’s Sambadrome will be followed by street parties.867 neighbourhood groups have registered for these events.
Rio de Janeiro is Brazil’s most famous city for its Carnival celebrations.This year, Rio de Janeiro has confirmed that it will continue with the events.
