Patna 22 Nov : , Police said Monday that 55 people were arrested in violation of liquor laws. Patna Police raided 80 hotels on Sunday night, 12 slum clusters and 12 other locations on the orders of the divisional Commissioner to verify that there were no liquor-related violations.
The suspects included a guard at the railway, a hotel manager, and a contractor.
Guests who were staying in hotels to marry claimed that Patna Police had invaded their privacy and conducted raids.
Social media went wild after a video of a Patna Police team raiding a wedding hall was posted.Male policemen searched the women’s rooms, searching their suitcases and toiletries.
Sunil Kumar, who was a guest at Sunil Kumar’s wedding party, stated that an officer from Patna Police informed us during the search that the team was following orders from the higher authorities.
He said that the officers tried to talk with them, and that the guests on the groom’s left drank alcohol during the wedding party.
Upendra Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, stated that “we have arrested more than 300 people ever since Sanjay Agrawal (DC), of Patna.” These raids are expected to continue for the next few days.
DC directed authorities to enforce strict liquor prohibition in the state.
The directives require that all operators of wedding halls, banquet halls or Dharamshalas as well as hotels, install CCTV cameras to monitor guests’ activities.
This is done to prevent violations of the liquor prohibition law.
