It had been taken from its mother and handed over to an Andhra Pradesh couple.
CWC directed Kerala State Council for Child Welfare to return the child to Kerala within five days.

This team includes a CWC woman and three female police officers. The baby is due to be returned later in the afternoon.

After Anupama, a 22-year-old mother, protested indefinitely before the Council last Thursday. She demanded the resignation of top office-bearers from the KSCCWC/CWC.

These she claimed are responsible for handing her baby over to adoptive parents.

After the child is delivered, the Kerala government will take custody and conduct a DNA test.

Anupama (SFI activist), granddaughter of one the most prominent yesteryear CPI–M leaders in the capital city, had approached Ajith, the State Police chief, and the Child Welfare Committee to discuss this matter.

After their appeals to top officials were ignored, the couple had to confront the media.

Sources claim that Anupama was given her child by the CWC to an Andhra Pradesh couple last year for adoption. The young parents hope that DNA testing will uncover the truth.

There was also another baby given to the adoptive parents.

Shortly after all the hype in media, the capital’s family court stopped further formalisation of the adoption.

The court heard the petition on Saturday and criticized the Council for not producing the license to adopt, as this is the second instance of its directive being ignored.

The CWC also informed the court, “The probe is in its final lap” and that it needs time until the 29th of the month for completion. This was granted.

Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of the CPI-M, had been subject to severe pressure in the public domain due to the allegations that the Vijayan government and party acted in this matter.

Anupama, who has knocked on every door since she lost her baby four days after giving birth, would have no chance at getting her baby back if it wasn’t for the media blitz.
