Khartoum 29 December : .At least 38 people were killed when a gold mine in West Kordofan, South Sudan collapsed, according to a government statement.
The statement read on Tuesday that “The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company Limited General Manager mourns 38 miners who were killed in the Umm Draisaya collapse”

Near El Nuhud, a West Kordofan town located 500km west of Khartoum, Sudan’s capital city is the site of a collapsed gold mine.

According to company records, the government of West Kordofan and its security committee had previously decided to close down the mine.

They claimed that the site was unsuitable for mining.

It said that miners also infiltrated the mine and continued to work in it despite this decision.

According to Xinhua, there are approximately 2 million Sudanese workers in traditional mining industries across Sudan.This includes the state of Red Sea and Nahr al-Neel as well as the South Kordofan, West Kordofan, West Kordofan, Northern, Red Sea, Nahr al-Neel and South Kordofan.

Official statistics show that traditional mining accounts for close to 75% of Sudan’s total gold production, exceeding 93 tonnes per year.
