Dar Es Salaam, Aug 10 : At at least 20 people were killed and 15 others injured when three vehicles and tractor were involved in multiple collisions in Tanzania’s northern district of Kahama in Shinyanga region police said. The Shinyanga regional police chief Leonard Nyandahu said on Tuesday that in one of the incidents three people who were travelling in the salon car died in the scene when their vehicle collided with an unmoving tractor in the evening of Monday.
Nyandahu said at a news conference that 17 more people in the mini-bus died immediately after their mini-bus collided with the truck on Monday night when the driver of the bus attempted to stay clear of the tractor that was stationary, Xinhua news agency reported.
He said that the incident took place at around 10 p.m.He added that three of the injured victims were in critical condition.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is in the process of inspecting the Njombe region in the south of the country and sent a condolence note to Shinyanga regional commissioner Sophia Mjema following the accidents.
“I join the families in mourning the loss of their loved family members and family members,” said President Hassan in an announcement issued by the Directorate of Presidential Communications, sending his best wishes to the injured and their quick recovery.
