Maharashtra-bound truck near Hyderabad seized 1,820 kg of ganja

Hyderabad, Nov 25, : On Thursday, the Telangana Police busted another inter-state drug trafficking racket.They seized 1,820 kilograms of marijuana (ganja), from a truck in Abdullapurmet, just outside of Hyderabad.
Special Operations Team (SOT), Rachakonda Police Commissionate, arrested five peddlers.They seized contraband being transported between Sileru in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Police say that the ganja was being transported via Narsipatnam and Rajahmundry to Maharashtra via Suryapet, Choutuppal and Choutuppal.

Police took 182 packets of ganja and a lorry with Rs 41,000 cash and seven phones.

They were all worth more than Rs 3 crore.

Based on specific information, sleuths from SOT, LB Nagar Zone and Abdullapurmet police arrested the drug peddlers.

The truck driver, however, is from West Bengal.Four of the four are from Maharashtra.

Main accused Sanjay Lakhman Shinde, a resident from Osmanabad in Maharashtra, is currently hiding.Along with his relatives Sanjay Balajikale, Abhiman Kallyan Pawar, and their friends Sanjay Kalappa and Bharat Kalappa, he was running the racket.

They used Shek Rahidul, a West Bengali native, to drive the truck to transport illegally ganja from Sileru Agency in Andhra Pradesh, to Maharashtra.

Mahesh Bhagwat, Rachakonda Police Commissioner, said that the ganja packets had been hidden under the organic compost bags.

He claimed that the accused were using his car as a pilot vehicle to transport the narcotic drugs.

The police were told by the accused that they were buying ganja at Rs 8000 per kilogram and selling it to Maharashtra customers at Rs 15,000 per kilogram.

He stated that this was the largest amount of ganja seized in Rachakonda this year.The contraband was seized by the police in excess of 5,000 kilograms.

The Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda police commissionates that cover the city and its environs and the excise department have been conducting a vigorous campaign against drugs since last month under the direction of Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao.
