Thane Municipal Corporation issues show-cause notice to these hospitals on receiving complaints from patients.
Upon receiving several complaints from the Covid-19 patients that many private hospitals are charging a high fee for treating Coronavirus, Thane Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma has ordered an inspection team to foresee the situation.
The team has audited nearly 4,106 bills across 17 hospitals for the last two months in Thane.And to their shock, the hospitals have reportedly gathered nearly 1.82 crore rupees from different patients.Immediately after finding the audits, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has issued a show-cause notice to all the 17 hospitals.
Consequently, the hospitals have refunded Rs 26.68 lakhs to the respective patients till now and a refund of 1.40 crore is yet to be paid.Thane Municipal Corporation has the reputation of suspending a few private hospitals for overcharging COVID fee, and locals are appreciating the commissioner’s effort.
According to the Central government, the Covid-19 fee should not be charged more than Rs 4,500.However, many private hospitals are overcharging with thousands and lakh rupees on the bills.
