London 9 August, London : At at least 13,016 asylum seekers have crossed the English Channel since UK Home Secretary Priti Patel announced her plan to transfer asylum seekers to Rwanda.
According to the Ministry of Defence, 176 people crossed the border using five small boats Sunday, which brought the number of people crossing to 13,016 as of April 14, according to DPA news agency.

The total number of people who have crossed the English Channel so far this year to 18,284.

Photos taken on Monday showed another set of migrants, dressed in life masks and jackets being taken to Dover by Border Force officials.

A large number of infants and children covered in soft blue blankets believed to be given by authorities were among those who were taken from the boat to an unoccupied bus.

The analysis carried out provided by the PA news agency of the Ministry of Defence’s preliminary figures show 1,885 people were brought to the UK up to now in August.

This is greater than 50% of the people who were rescued in August 2021.

In April the Home Secretary praised the Rwanda deal as an “world world class” plan that served as an “blueprint” to other nations to follow.

“The UK asylum system is in crisis due to a combination of real-life humanitarian crises and criminal people smugglers making money by using the system to make their own profit,” Patel had said.

“This is a devastating blow to the thousands of men, women and children who tragically lost their lives, or lost loved ones in dangerous journeys.

“A global leadership team is needed to find creative solutions to this ever-growing issue,” she added.

The time in when the agreement was made was the most busy of the year in terms of migrant crossings with 2,076 making the journey across the Channel.
