Steel plants belonging to the domestic steel industry have supplied 1.43 lakh tonnes of medical oxygen to various states of the country for corona treatment since August last year.They are producing 3,474 tons of medical oxygen in a single day.

The steel plants are trying to produce more oxygen in the wake of the increasing demand for oxygen due to the severity of coronavirus.There are a total of 33 oxygen plants in the steel sector, out of which 29 plants are in the process of producing oxygen.

Their daily production capacity of these steel plants was 2,834 tonnes of oxygen and on the 24th of this month, they produced 3,474 tonnes of oxygen.

This was made possible by reducing the production of nitrogen and argon at the plants.From the Vizag Steel plant, 2,894 tonnes of oxygen was supplied to various states on the 24th of this month.

Previously, the daily supply was between 1,500 to 1,700 tons.

The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) was supplying 800 tonnes per day, it supplied 1,150 tonnes on the 23rd and 960 tonnes on the 24th of this month.

The Visakhapatnam steel plant supplied 8,842 tonnes of oxygen last year and 1,300 tonnes since April 13.
