The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Friday passed a resolution requesting the Centre to reconsider its decision to restore name of late chief minister NT Rama Rao to the domestic terminal at Hyderabad International Airport.Telangana Chief Minister KCR has passed a resolution in the house opposing the centre’s decision to name the Shamshabad Airport after NT Rama Rao.

Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy, leaders of YSR Congress, CPM and CPI supported the resolution and TDP ;BJP opposed the move.Speaking on the assembly KCR said that there were four existing airports in Andhra Pradesh and they could be named after NTR and asked centre to respect Telangana people.

“If they want to rename the domestic terminal they should have considered the name of a Telangana person.Should not the Centre recognise us ? They could have named it after late Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao who was a son of the soil,” the Chief Minister remarked.KCR said that Assembly objects to the manner in which the Central government took the decision without even consulting the Telangana state government.

TDP floor leader Errabilli Dayakar Rao opposed the resolution saying NTR’s name for the domestic terminal was deliberately removed by the then Congress government after the new Hyderabad airport was built.

BJP leader Kishan Reddy suggested that a local Telangana leader’s name be decided for naming the airport.The leaders of the house also suggested for passing a resolution to name the airport after Komaram Bheem.
