Telangana chief minister KCR stirred up a controversy when he said that some of the statues on Tank Bund were useless.He made this derogatory statements during the 89th birth anniversary celebrations of veteran lyricist and writer Dasaradhi held at Ravindra Bharathi Auditorium recently.
While speaking at the event KCR recalled Dasarathis yeomen’s services for the spread of Telangana literature and culture across the globe.
He said statues like such great personalities should be erected at Tank Bund Park and not the useless and unknown persons.KCR said there were some useless statues on the Tank Bund.“Who knows Bellary Raghava? We don’t know who was he?” remarked KCR while referring to legendary theatre personality Bellary Raghava
Speaking about no statue of Dasaradhi in Hyderabad, KCR said, “There are several useless statues on the Tankbund and other areas of Hyderabad.There is one statue of Bellary Raghava.There is also a lesson on him in school books.He is no one and there is no need to know about him”.
Showering praises on Dasarathi, he said an institution would be named after the poet-laureate and his son would be given a government job.He also promised to constitute an award on his name with Rs.1 lakh as the prize money.
Everyone will appreciate KCR for respecting veteran writer Dasaradhi, but not his disrespect shown towards eminent persons like Ballari Raghava and all others, whose statues were erected on Tank Bund Park.
