A popular singer from Punjab Dharampreet committed suicide in his apartment on Monday, 8 June.The 40-year-old singer reportedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan.
According to his mother Balvir Kaur, Dharampreet was upset due to downfall in his career.“For last few days, he would often say that this fan will take my life,” she said.
His wife Mandeep Kaur and 11-year-old son were not at home at the time.
According to his mother, Dharampreet did not open the door till 10 am on Monday.
She then called neighbours for help who forced open the door to find the singer hanging with the fan.
Dharampreet hails from Bilaspur town near Moga in Indian Punjab.He entered the world of Punjabi music in 1993 as Bhupinder Dharma with his album Khatra Hai Sohanya Nu that was released by Payal Music Company.
As soon as the news broke out, people from the Punjabi music industry expressed shock and grief over the demise of the singer.
His cremation was largely attended by people from all walks of life apart from singer fraternity.
