Shocker:7 years Jail for Amma Jayalalita

Here is a big shocker for Tamilnadu CM Amma Jayalalitha.THE Tamil Nadu CM pronounced guilty in disproportionate assets case and she was convicted under Prevention of Corruption ACt Section 13 (1) (E).The Special Court had accepted with CBI’s arguments on Jaya Lalithaa being corrupt to the extent of 66 Crores.

This is the first time that a serving chief minister is found guilty in a corruption case.

The case was filed by Subramanyam Swami in 1996 and chargesheet filed in 1997.Charges framed against Jayalalitha, her acolyte Sasikala, Sudhakaran and Ilavarasan

The case was transferred to Bangalore’s Special Court in 2003 by the Supreme Court on a petition filed by DMK leader K Anbazhagan who had expressed doubts over conduct of fair trail in Tamil Nadu as Jayalalithaa ruled the state then.

Jayalalitha case has not just brought an end to the 18-year-long legal battle, it also virtually brought to closure the political life of South India’s most enigmatic and charismatic leader.

Now, Amma has to quit from the CM’s post.

This is not the first time that Jaya had stepped down from the CM’s post due to legal battles.In 2001, the Supreme Court ordered that she could not hold the post as she was found guilty in Tansi case.

Senior AIADMK leader and Tamil Nadu Finance Minister O Paneerselvam is expected to take cm charge.Jaya may face imprisonment of 7 years.
