Piracy: Mani gets interim stay on Google

The biggest enemy and threat to the entertainment industry has been piracy and each year hundreds of crores is eaten away by the piracy.The main target is the big films whose DVDs are sold at throw away prices in the market just two to three days of release.

The latest victim in that ring is Mani Ratnam directed OK Kanmani(OK Bangaram in telugu).Mani Ratnam has moved the Chennai High Court on the online piracy of the film and Justice K Ravichandra Babu has granted an interim ban to twelve Internet Service Providers and two websites in broadcasting the pirated version of O Kadhal Kanmani or OK Kanmani.

The director had moved the court seeking directions to stop Google India, YouTube, BSNL, MTNL, Airtel, Aircel, Vodafone, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices from broadcasting the film.In his petition, Mani Ratnam has said piracy on the internet could be only prevented by blocking websites which are hosting such pirated contents and all the major internet service providers should start working on it.

Justice K Ravichandra Babu granted the stay and adjourned the matter by six weeks.With the court orders Google and 13 other intermediaries had to block all the URLs carrying any image of Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Ok Kadhal Kanmani’.
