Fulfilling the long demand of TDP party and NTR fans central aviation ministry issued the orders to change the name of Shamshabad domestic terminal after late NTR name.From now onwards domestic terminal in Shamshabad airport in Hyderabad will be addressed as NTR Domestic Terminal and the international terminal’s name will remain same as before-Rajiv Gandhi International Terminal.
Earlier, when the airport was in operation at Begumpeta, domestic terminal was named after NTR.But the name was changed when the airport was shifted to Shamshabad by the then Congress who named it after Rajiv Gandhi.
Recently while speaking at Party Mahaanadu event TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu revived their demand that Rajiv Gandhi International Airport should be named after the party’s founding father, NTR.Aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju took the matter to centre and succeeded in getting the name changed.
Congress party was reportedly upset with the development and it may oppose the decision of changing the name.While the TRS is also learnt to be upset since the new airport is now in Telangana, party sources said it may not raise the issue as it does not want to sour its relations with the NDA.Besides, NTR is a popular figure in Telangana too.
