Superstar Rajinikanth is back with a gangster role in Kabali.The film has been sold for 200cr suggesting the craze it is carrying in the audience.Kabali has been released over 4000 screens today.Let’s see if it stood on the expectations or not.

Story in brief :

After spending 25 years in Jail, the gangster Kabaleeshwaran (Rajinikanth) takes charge of the gang again which he initially received from his boss Sitaramaraj (Naazar), after his death.Many from the Migrant Indian Community in Malaysia work as labourers under Chinese Mafia gangs doing drug trafficking.

Their miserable lives move Kabaleeshwaran.He stands for the Indians in Malaysia (Tamilians in specific) and makes all the efforts for their betterment.

This is the reason why there is gang war between Kabaleeshwaran and Tony Woo (Winston Chao) who is the leader of merciless Gang 43.Actually, this led Kabaleeshwaran’s wife (Radhika Apte) into trouble.

After spending 25 years in Jail, what Kabaleeshwaran did in his comeback.His family, his empire and his efforts to save them falls into rest of the story.

Actors and Performances :

Rajinikanth at his usual best.In fact, much more than his usual best.Subtle at times and energetic at times.Kabali is another Rajinikanth one man show.

But, you will definitely miss the over the top Rajinikanth with his typical mannerisms.

While Radhika Apte is okay in her limitations, Dhansika deserves a special mention for her brilliant performance.Dhansika is completely a surprise package.

The antagonist was good and fared meeting the expectations.

Remaining characters did perform well and there is nothing much to complain on this part.

Technicians :

The camera work from G.Murali is unarguably the second attraction after Rajinikanth in the film.It’s world class and nothing less to the standards of Hollywood films.Santhosh Narayanan”s background score is thumping at times and falls flat at times.Over all, it’s quite good and elevates the protagonist.

Editing could have been more crispy.The films runs very slow and tests the patience.A big fail to be honest.Can’t blame the editor if it was director himself who forced the editor for this sort of narration.

Pa Ranjith, as thailvar fans were worried, delivers a slow movie.Kabali is a mix of dull moments and electrifying elevations.

There is so much to complain about the director as he really misused the opportunity to create magic with the biggest Superstar in this country.

Analysis :

The first 15-20 mins of the film takes audience into excitement.With the passage of time it gets slow and slower testing the patience.This would really hurt the core fan base of Rajinikanth.

However, the flash back episodes and the emotions work big time.

Episodes between Kabaleeshwaran and his wife are speed breakers in the narration which is already slow.

At some point of time in the second half, audience would go clueless why they are supposed to see such a film with unwanted slow pace.

The film picks up from pre climax and the episodes from there including the climax have been shot well.

In short, Kabali will make you excited at the start, at interval and at the climax.The remaining part will definitely test the patience.

You need to be a die hard Rajinikanth fan to bear all the unwanted things and exit in happiness from the theater.

Positives :

* Rajinikanth

* Performances from other actors

* Few episodes that elevate the protagonist

* Cinematography and background score

Negatives :

* No typical Rajinikanth mark

* Slow Narration

* Songs (except the first one)

* Editing

* Lack of chemistry between Rajini and Radhika

Conclusion :

Watch it if you are fan of Rajinikanth.Even if you are not, can have a try as it stars Rajinikanth.
