Finally, the state government has begun efforts for formation of Greater Warangal.The Telangana government on Wednesday accorded ‘greater’ status to the Warangal Municipal Corporation on the lines of GHMC.
The decision to upgrade the Warangal Municipal Corporation into Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation was taken by chief minister KCR at a meeting held with principal secretary MG Gopal .KCR and other revenue officials opined that Warangal deserves ‘greater’ status since it has been developing faster than any other city after Hyderabad
“It is imperative to give due recognition to the city which will be developed on par with that of Hyderabad in terms of industries and educational institutions”, the Chief Minister opined.
Recently 42 surrounding gram panchayats merged into Warangal and made the city bigger with population crossing 10 lakh.Warangal will be the second city in Telangana state to get the ‘Greater’ status.
From now the Warangal Municipal Corporation will be called Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation.
The officials issued orders giving “greater status” to Warangal, which includes Hanamkonda and Kazipet under its region.
