An AirAsia flight travelling from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control.According to reports aircraft, flight number QZ8501, lost contact with air traffic control at 07:24 (00:24 GMT).As per reports more than 160 people were on board the Airbus A320-200.The plane left Juanda International Airport at 5:27 a.m.Sunday (5:27 p.m.Saturday ET) and was due to arrive in Singapore at 8:37 a.m.Sunday (7:37 p.m.ET), according to the sources.The company said that search and rescue operations were under way for the missing plane.The news was officially confirmed by Air Asia and their Facebook page which reads: AirAsia Indonesia regrets to confirm that flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control at 0724hrs on Sunday morning.At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available, it said.The flight reportedly carries 149 Indonesians, three Koreans, one Singaporean, one Briton and one Malaysian on board.
