Hindi film ‘Liar’s Dice’, a road drama about a tribal woman’s journey to find her missing husband, has been selected as India’s official entry to the upcoming Academy awards in the best foreign film category.Directed by Geetu Mohandas and starring Geetanjali Thapa and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles, ‘Liar’s Dice’ beat 29 other films to represent India at the Oscars 2015 An eminent jury of 12 members, constituted by Film Federation of India under the chairmanship of multiple National award winning director T.Hariharan selected Liar’s Dice (Hindi) to represent India at the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language film category.The jury submitted the recommendation to Shri C.Kalyan, Vice President;Film Chamber of India.Liars dice, debut directed by Malayalam actress Geetu Mohandas, tells the story of a young tribal mother who, along with her three-year-old daughter, embarks on a journey in search of her missing husband.
On the way, she meets an army deserter, who decides to accompany them to their destination The film went on to receive two National Film Awards including, Best Actress for Geetanjali Thapa and Best Cinematography for Rajeev Ravi at the 61st National Film Awards.India always aspired to win Oscars in the best foreign film category.Till now it didnot happen.Though Gandhi and Slumdog Millionnaire won Oscars, they are directed by foreigners.
Even Amir Khan’s Lagaan which many expected to bring prestigious Oscars to India, failed to do so.’Mother India’ and ‘Salaam Bombay’ are the only other two Indian films to have made it to the top five.Let’s hope Liar’s Dice’ will get the prestigious award.The 87th Academy awards will take place on February 22.
